ICY, FROSTED MAKEUP IS MAKING AN EARLY-2000s COMEBACK
Pinterest's 'Cool Blue' trend revives frosted eyeshadow and blue-based lipstick for 2026.

Pinterest's 2026 trend report identifies a distinct chromatic shift toward icy, blue-based tones across beauty categories this year a trend the platform calls.
Cool Blue, marking a genuine revival of frosted eyeshadow looks and cool-toned highlighters that dominated much of early-2000s beauty, after roughly two decades of warmer, sun-kissed makeup trends holding cultural dominance.
Beauty expert Annabelle Taura notes the timing makes sense given recent colour momentum: "Cobalt blue has been huge over the last year, so it's interesting to see this cool-toned, frosted iteration set to trend in 2026," she says, predicting icy metallic eyeshadows and silver cream formulas will stick around through the year, with gemstone-inspired eyeshadow looks becoming increasingly wearable for everyday makeup rather than staying confined to special-occasion looks.
The trend's search data reflects a genuinely nostalgic pull specifically toward the early 2000s rather than a broader cool-toned aesthetic shift: frosted textures, shimmer finishes and blue-based lip colours were all hallmarks of that specific beauty era, and their return suggests early-2000s nostalgia - already well established in fashion and pop culture more broadly - is now extending fully into makeup formulation and colour choice as well.
For a beauty landscape that has spent the past several years dominated by warm, dewy, "clean girl" makeup palettes built around bronze and terracotta tones, a genuine swing toward icy, cool-toned frosted looks represents a meaningful colour-story departure worth watching as it plays out across the year's product launches.
