Japan in Paris: Junya Watanabe, Issey Miyake and Sacai
Japanese design maintained an outsized presence across the week's runway calendar.
Even in a week crowded with major European houses, Japanese labels held their ground at Paris Men's Fashion Week Spring/Summer 2027.
Junya Watanabe opened his show with a deceptively classic Americana set-up beige hunting jackets, thick denim, check shirts before subverting it with exaggerated proportions and unexpected colour. Issey Miyake continued its decades-long fabric-innovation philosophy with lightweight pleated garments that transformed shape with every step, while sacai's Chitose Abe, whose pattern-cutting was honed under Rei Kawakubo and Junya Watanabe at Comme des Garçons, kept building her signature 'hybrid' silhouettes by fusing contrasting fabrics and garment types into single pieces.
Auralee, Kolor, Doublet and Comme des Garçons Homme Plus rounded out a Japanese contingent that, collectively, remains one of the calendar's most consistently influential.
